I am a Child – This has a long story to it so I will be a brief as possible.
Originally Brian Walker a song writer from Dorset approached me with some songs to arrange. I asked if I could use the lyrics to this but with my own melody line and music. He agreed and the 1st version was born. It was very similar to what it is about now.
Then in early 2000’s Tom Lane from Penny Lane Promotions was looking for a song for an up and coming Singer. Tom wrote a poem that part of, I recorded, narrated by my son Jonathan who at the time was aged 7 (he’s nearly 18 now). That was the 2nd version.
The song didn’t get any where, but I have always kept the recording of Jon.
I then re-wrote the words to be more modern and put Jon in the song again. His words still mean exactly the same as they did 11 years ago.
The song is all about what we are doing to this planet and ourselves.
lyrics
I Am A Child
I’m a child of the universe, and want to play my part
Will there be Mother Earth, Left to share my heart,
Exploitation, Energy free
Wealth & power, they’re worryin’ me
I’m a child of the universe, Twixt the sea and sky
I live on mother earth, and do not want to die
All our Wild Life, energy free
Animal Cruelty, is botherin’ me
Onlookers look and don’t understand
Believers see as far as there hand
Chosen are those, who see everything clear
Wise are those, who know they are here
I’m a child of the universe, You’re killing my heart
I live on mother earth, North South poles apart
Pollution, Energy free
Intelligence, it’s worryin me
We are the children of the earth and you must understand
We are of the future our lives are in your hands
Look into the years ahead all the children cry
We are of the future and do not want to die
I’m a child of the universe, and I don’t want to die,
I live on Mother earth and now, Look to the sky
All the children, Energy free
Human Kindness, that’s botherin’ me
Just one small planet, but we don’t see
Universal children, we will be free
We will be free
We will be free
We will be free
We will be free
