about

Whale Song - I originally wrote a version of this on top of a Mountain in the Lake District in 1977. I’d always played little bits of it to myself over the years but had never really thought about using it as a song.
Ann (my partner) and I were in Wales for a weekend and I played this song to her. We recorded it on a 4 track, using a microphone with a sock on it recording the wind outside, which just sounded like waves(The weather was too rough to go to the beach). It was originally called Fingers (fingers of the waves). The idea of joining up this track and Only at Night was the helicopter and the Whales. All the trouble with Society and then flying out into the Ocean, and finding Whales and the serenity of their life and how different it is to ours.
